Rod Mulder, dean of the College of Community and Public Service is
stepping down from his position, effective June 30, 2008. He has held
the position since 1994.
“I’m sorry to be stepping down as dean,” Mulder said. “I truly enjoyed
it. It’s not a lose situation for me; I’m excited to get back to teaching.”
Mulder first came to Grand Valley 41 years ago as a French instructor
before switching to social work.
“Dean Mulder has been our longest standing dean on the Deans Council for
the past several years,” said Gayle Davis, provost and vice president
for Academic Affairs. “We’ll miss his contributions to that group’s
institutional memory as well as his insights, warmth and humor that he
brought everyday to the university. I’m glad he is not leaving the
university but will be adding to the teaching richness of the School of
Social Work.”
A search committee for a new dean, chaired by Davis, will be made up of
faculty, staff, community members and a student.
