GVSU graduates add to state's economy by staying

Recent surveys of Grand Valley State University graduates and alumni show that the vast majority find opportunities in Michigan.

The university's most recent survey of 2006 graduates found that 97% are in graduate school or are employed.
Of the 77% in the work force, 88% are employed right here in Michigan.

Of those pursuing advance degrees, 82% have chosen to attend a Michigan institution.

"We're extremely pleased that we can point to this return on investment for the state," said Grand Valley President Thomas J. Haas. "As the budget in Lansing has gotten tighter, we realize that lawmakers and the Governor need to see true benefits for the people of Michigan."

Grand Valley held a commencement last Saturday for the 2,943 students receiving degrees this spring. That includes 35 physical therapy students who are part of the first doctoral class at Grand Valley.

Grand Valley State University attracts more than 23,000 students with high quality programs and state-of-the-art facilities.
