Continuing Ed offers Workplace Language Instruction

Grand Valley’s Continuing Education is offering instruction in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and German through its Workplace Language School this summer. The Summer School 2007 sessions include:

Beginning Mandarin Chinese , which starts June 6. This six-week workshop is designed for beginners who want to develop basic oral skills. Basic grammar will be introduced to develop communicative competence. The course will familiarize learners with useful vocabulary and enable them to interact with others and engage in everyday conversation. Chinese culture will be integrated into the course.  The instructor is a native speaker who teaches Chinese at GVSU. The workshop is Wednesdays, starting June 6, from 8:30-10:30 a.m., through June 13, 20, 27 and (no class July 4) July 11 and 18 in the GVSU DeVos Center downtown. Cost is $ 210.00, which includes the text.

Beginning German , which begins June 7. This brand-new course is designed for people who have had little or no exposure to German. Grammar will be a constant topic of discussion; however, far more important is acquiring the ability to use the language in proper contexts.  This will require a look at many cultural aspects of German. Dates are Thursdays June 7, 14, 21, 28, July 12, 19 from 9-11 a.m. Cost is $ 195.00, which includes the text.

Spanish in the Workplace , which begins June 26. This workshop runs six weeks on Tuesdays (June 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31), two hours per week from 9-11 a.m. and is held at the GVSU DeVos Center downtown.  Cost is $189.00, which includes the text.
