Colloquium tackles variety of topics

From “brain drain” to service learning to the Middle East, a wide range of topics will be discussed in a colloquium sponsored by the College of Community and Public Service.

Dean Rod Mulder will open the meeting taking place Friday, March 23, from 9 a.m.-noon in Loosemore Auditorium of the DeVos Center. Scheduled speakers include:
  • 9:15 a.m., Mark Hoffman and Jeremy Pyne, School of Public and Nonprofit Administration, “Michigan’s Brain Drain: Myth or Reality”
  • 9:45 a.m., Jonathan White, School of Criminal Justice, “The Logic or Violent Eschatology and Theology in the Middle East”
  • 10:30 a.m., Stephen Borders and Gustavo Rotondaro, The Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, “Mapping the Adequacy of Prenatal Care in Grand Rapids”
  • 11 a.m., Steven Smith and James Edwards, School of Social Work, “Community Contributions Through Research and Service Learning: A Social Work Perspective”
  • 11:30 a.m., Charles Baker-Clark and Paul Stansbie, Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, “The Value of Service Learning Projects to the HTM Curriculum”
