The Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees approved a resolution at their February 13 meeting, terminating the charter contract with Detroit Advantage Academy. The Board of Trustees heard facts outlining the schools underperformance from Edward Richardson, Grand Valleys special assistant to the president for Charter Schools. Richardson cited concerns over the schools student performance, governance and operations, compliance reporting and communication. 'We have determined that despite many positive efforts, Detroit Advantage Academy has consistently not been able to meet required performance standards and it is our decision to terminate our contract,' Richardson said. The termination will be effective one year from the date of notice. Grand Valleys Board of Trustees also approved a resolution to modify the terms of service to all remaining members of the Metro Charter Academy Board of Directors to end on Friday, February 13, 2004. Richardson said the action comes after numerous parent complaints regarding the deterioration of board member relationships and the inability of the Metro Board to lead the school.
