Two Grand Valley State University student groups on opposite sides of
the abortion debate are joining forces to hold a debate between American
Civil Liberties Union president Nadine Strossen and Right to Life
activist Scott Klusendorf.
The groups, Voices for Healthy Choices and Students for Life, are
staging the debate during the April Fire & Ice Week, which is
intended to provide a safe environment for both sides of the issue to
engage in a dialogue. The debate will be Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 7
p.m. in the Cook-DeWitt Center, will feature ACLU president, Nadine
Strossen and Right to Life activist Scott Klusendorf.
Strossen became the first woman and the youngest person to ever lead the
American Civil Liberties Union as its president. A professor of law at
New York Law School, she has written, lectured, and practiced
extensively in the areas of constitutional law, civil liberties, and
international human rights. She is the author of two books, Defending
Pornography and Speaking of Race, Speaking of Sex: Hate Speech, Civil
Rights, and Civil Liberties.
Klusendorf is president of the Life Training Institute. He travels
throughout the United States and Canada training abortion opponents to
defend their views in the public square. He is the author of Pro-Life
101: a Step by Step Guide to Making Your Case Persuasively. He is a
frequent guest on nationally syndicated programs and has participated in
numerous debates at the university level. He has lectured to student
groups at more than 70 colleges.
