More than 600 graduates are expected to participate in convocation, which is a precursor to Grand Valley's Commencement, scheduled for April 29 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR
During convocation, Mary Adams, a fourth grade teacher for
Greenville Public Schools, will receive the award for Outstanding
Educator. Adams graduated Cum Laude in 1991 from Grand Valley and
earned her master's degree from Western Michigan University in 2002.
During her 13 years in Greenville, Adams co-authored the application that earned her school a Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Award. She also helped create "Mentor-A-Mom," a school-age mentoring program designed to support at-risk mothers. She assisted her students at Lincoln Heights in starting a school store and a student newspaper, and has written several successful grants for enrichment programs and equipment.
OUTSTANDING ADMINISTRATOR
Jean Carroll-Hamilton will receive the award for Outstanding
Administrator. Hamilton earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree
from Western Michigan University. She earned a second master's from
Grand Valley in 1996. Hamilton has spent the last 15 years at Grand
View Elementary in the Grandville Public School District. She began as
a first grade teacher, followed by several years as assistant
principal. Hamilton has served as principal for the last three years.
Grand View is one of the largest elementary schools in the area with
an enrollment of almost 700 students. Hamilton was instrumental in
helping her school obtain its National and Michigan Blue Ribbon
Exemplary School status. For photos or more information, contact GVSU
