University donates computers to reservation

Paul Jorgensen, professor of computing and information systems, delivered and installed 10 computers in a new charter school on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

The school, Cokan Tiospaye Owayawa, was established by a group of very traditional Lakota families in the Porcupine district of the reservation. Jorgensen said he started traveling to South Dakota through a church group. Sherry Barricklow, Bob Holcomb and Susan Korzinek, from Information Technology, arranged for the computers.

Jorgensen plans to organize a faculty Alternative Spring Break trip to the reservation during the winter semester. Faculty members who are interested should contact Jorgensen at [email protected].
