Presenters, film give perspectives on Africa

Three presentations and a documentary film will show perspectives on Africa, its land and culture.

The series runs through April 13 and is sponsored by the College of Interdisciplinary Studies and African and African American Studies Program. Details and dates are as follows:

  • Wednesday, March 15, 2-4 p.m., Padnos Hall, room 308. "African Demographic Momentum to 2100: The Africanization of the World?" by Roy Cole, associate professor of geography. He will discuss the challenges and global implications of Africa's demographic momentum.

  • March 21, 2-4 p.m., Kirkhof Center, rooms 215/216. "Invisible Children," a documentary film about the effects of a 20 year-long war on the children of Northern Uganda will be shown and discussed. The event is co-sponsored by the International Club.

  • April 3, 2-4 p.m., Padnos Hall, room 308. "Slaves, Quilts and Robert Cromwell on the Wall: Slavery and Public Scholarship" by Michelle Johnson, Freedom Trail coordinator and adjunct instructor. She will discuss interpretations of slavery and resistance between the general public and scholars.

  • April 13, 2-4 p.m., Padnos Hall, room 308. "Language of Dress" by Steeve Buckridge, associate professor of history, will talk about the importance of everyday apparel worn by African men and women and their descendents in Jamaica.
