The 2005 convocation video received awards in two categories: Best Video Feature and Best Videos/DVDs Student Recruitment. A video tribute to architect Vern Ohlman received an honorable mention award in the Best Practices in Communications and Marketing category. A photo taken by Bernadine Carey-Tucker of Buddhist monks, which was featured on the back of The Best of Grand Valley, won a silver medal in the Best Individual Photo category.
NIS also received recognition in six categories from the Communicator Awards, an international competition, for a video of the engineering program (Award of Distinction and Honorable Mention-Writing), Ohlman tribute (Award of Distinction and Crystal Award of Excellence-Writing) and Around Grand Valley Tour Video (Crystal Award of Excellence: On-Camera Talent and Award of Distinction).
