Niemeyer winners announced

Two long-time faculty members and three students were named recipients of the Glenn A. Niemeyer Awards, which honor faculty and students who strive for excellence in all aspects of a well-rounded academic experience.

The faculty winners are Faite Mack, professor of education, and Jaideep Motwani, professor of management and department chair. Student winners are undergraduates Lyndsey Adams, a psychology major; Andrew Bruischat, a finance major; and graduate student Natalie James, an education major.

They will be recognized April 10 at the annual awards banquet.

Mack called the Niemeyer Award a special honor because it recognizes quality teaching.

"As a teacher of teachers, it validates my mission of inspiring learners and kindling minds," he said. "I have learned after 30 years of instruction that the best educator is one who has the ability to motivate their students with the wish to teach themselves and to discover new ideas."

The awards are named after pioneer faculty member Glenn A. Niemeyer, who also served as Grand Valley provost for nearly 20 years.
