The Gerald R. Ford Foundation is bringing Kissinger to Grand Rapids. The Ford Presidential Museum is hosting his talk, and Grand Valley State Universitys Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies is hosting his visit to campus.
Kissinger served as the 56th U.S. secretary of state from 1973-1977. He also served as assistant to President Ford for national security affairs. He is currently a member of the Defense Policy Board and chairman of Kissinger Associates, Inc., an international consulting firm.
Kissinger has been the recipient of several awards including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973, the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the nations highest civilian award) in 1977, and the Medal of Liberty in 1986.

Henry Kissinger was one of the most important people in the world during the 1970s, said Gleaves Whitney, director of the Hauenstein Center. He remains important because he knows so many foreign leaders and understands the challenges we face as a nation.
