Martin named top coach in D-II

Head football coach Chuck Martin was named Division II Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.

The association presented its top coaching awards January 10 at its annual convention. Penn State's Joe Paterno, Appalachian State's Jerry Moore and and Wisconsin-Whitewater's Bob Berezowitz were the other winners. The winners are selected by a vote of the active AFCA members (coaches at four-year schools) in the association's four divisions.

Martin led the Lakers to a 13-0 record, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and the NCAA Division II championship in 2005. In his two seasons as head football coach, Martin has lost only three games.
