Mandela-Parks lecture series features Calvin professor

A Calvin College professor and expert in civil rights history will be the next speaker in the Mandela-Parks Lecture Series, sponsored by the College of Interdisciplinary Studies and the African and African American Studies Program.

Randal Jelks, associate professor of history, will discuss "Civil Rights Movement Politics in a Great Lakes City: The Confluence of Race, Ethnicity, and Culture in the Search for Political Power" on Thursday, February 16, from 2-4 p.m. in rooms 215/216 of the Kirkhof Center.

Jelks has published both scholarly and journalistic articles. His book, African Americans in the Furniture City: The Struggle for Civil Rights in Grand Rapids, has just been published by the University of Illinois Press.
