Latino Web site wins award

A Web site created by Grand Valley students was named as one of the best online educational resources by StudySphere. StudySphere is one of the Internet's fastest growing sites of educational resources for students, teachers and parents.

The Web site, Latinos in West Michigan (www4.gvsu.edu/latinos) includes information on demographics, history, resources and notable people. Cliff Welch, associate professor of history, said he and several students began working on the site in 1997.

"The inspiration came from anthropology student Darlene Bos, whose oral histories with Mexican-American senior citizens is published on the site," he said.

Students in computer science, Latin American Studies and history aided the project.
