GVSU, Hispanic community leaders host panel discussion

Grand Valley State University and several Hispanic community leaders will talk about their experiences, career paths and issues that Hispanic and Latino students face during a half-day seminar.

The Hispanic/Latino Student Experience is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Eberhard Center, 301 W. Fulton Street in Grand Rapids. The event is free and open to the public; it is targeted toward people who work with K-12 or college Hispanic/Latino students.

Speakers include Juan Olivarez, president of Grand Rapids Community College; Philip Batty, director of GVSU Institutional Analysis; and Jos¿ Infante, GVSU board of trustees member. Reniero Araoz, Lansing School District area director, will moderate a panel discussion of high school students; and Julie Guevara, associate provost at Grand Valley, will moderate a college student panel discussion. President Mark A. Murray will give the welcome remarks.
