"For many months previous to the media attention, we had been working on a vehicle to allow CLAS faculty to share their sabbatical experience with their peers on campus," said Associate Dean Jann Joseph. "As our faculty numbers have grown over the years, we've found it increasingly challenging to share this information with everyone in the college."
The vehicle chosen is an upcoming CLAS Faculty Sabbatical Showcase on Wednesday, April 19. The event will be held in the Grand River Room of Kirkhof Center, Allendale Campus, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Though the event is geared to faculty by faculty, it is open to the public. Media are invited to attend.
Of the 420 tenure track CLAS faculty eligible for sabbatical, 50 took the opportunity over the past three semesters. Of those, about 30 will give brief presentations supplemented with posters, media or artwork. CLAS Dean Fred Antczak will make a brief presentation at 3 p.m. and begin the college's annual meeting. Faculty presentations will resume at 4:15 p.m., followed by an opportunity to mingle among displays.
"We are very excited about this event and hope it will become a tradition for our faculty," said Joseph.
