ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Grand Valley State University President Thomas J. Haas announced today that Jim Bachmeier, associate vice president for Business and Finance, will become the university's vice president for Finance and Administration. Bachmeier replaces Tim Schad who retired from Grand Valley in November.
"I am thrilled to be able to promote Jim," said Haas. "He is ethical, respected, and trusted both inside and outside the university. Jim has all the experience and qualities to lead Grand Valley in the area of finance and administration."
Bachmeier is a CPA who joined Grand Valley in 1995 after serving as vice president for Finance and Administration at Western Nebraska Community College. He was promoted from assistant vice president for Business and Finance at Grand Valley to associate vice president in 2004. He has been acting as interim vice president since Schad's departure.
Bachmeier believes his experience at Grand Valley and the fact he's taking over a high-functioning division will allow plenty of opportunities to excel. "I'm flattered and privileged to be part of leading this great university," said Bachmeier. "It doesn't matter to what corner or division of the university you look, it's another piece of good news. Stepping into such a well-run university and division means we can spend more time and energy on building the future, not fixing problems."
Bachmeier has a Master of Business Administration from Chadron State College and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Black Hills State University.
The search to replace Bachmeier in his position as head of Business and Finance is underway.
