Board Chair Jessie Dalman presented a citation as a surprise to Murray at the university's annual Enrichment Dinner Wednesday night in Grand Rapids.
The living center is currently known as South A and it was opened in the fall of 2004 during Murray's five-year tenure.
Murray will leave Grand Valley August 1 to become president of Meijer Inc.
The board will formally vote on the resolution to name the living center for Murray at its July 10 board meeting.
