Census workshop helps businesses and nonprofits

Several local institutions are sponsoring a workshop designed to help businesses and nonprofits use the U.S. Economic Census to get a snapshot of industries at the county, state or national level.

The event is sponsored by the Community Research Institute which is part of Grand Valley's Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership. Other sponsors include Grand Valley's Seidman College of Business and Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, as well as The Right Place of Greater Grand Rapids.

The workshop will focus on investigating current market situations and discovering new markets. Business owners and nonprofit leaders will learn about the Economic Census and how to apply the data to their companies and products. They will also receive assistance in identifying new opportunities from online resources.

The census workshop, "Dollars and Data" will be held Tuesday, April 11, from 8 a.m.-noon at Loosemore Auditorium in the DeVos Center of Grand Valley's Pew Grand Rapids Campus, 401 W. Fulton.
