Newsweek recognized schools that do the best job of preparing students for college. Black River's programs were ranked 55th nationally and second in Michigan. Black River was the only West Michigan school to make the list.
"We recognize this as a strong commitment from our students and teachers to work with an engaging and challenging curriculum," said Greg Dykhouse, director of Academics at Black River. "We built our AP program from scratch 10 years ago. This is a nice indication that our programs are working well."
Black River enrolls more than 700 students, with an average class size of 20 students.
"Black River Public School represents so much of what is right about public schooling," said Ed Richardson, director of Charter Schools for Grand Valley. "They have put together a program that students and parents embrace and have a track record of organizational and academic success."
