Accounting professor named interim vice provost

Joseph Godwin, professor of accounting, was named interim associate vice president for Academic Affairs. He will replace Sue Martin, who is leaving Grand Valley to become the provost at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Godwin joined Grand Valley's faculty 11 years ago. He has served as department chair and, for one year, as an academic fellow at the Securities and Exchange Commission. Godwin said his SEC duties included serving as liaison between the the Office of the Chief Accountant and the academic community.

He said he looks forward to participating in Grand Valley's growth.

"I applied for the position to have the opportunity to work with the administration and to learn about the challenges facing universities in this time of budgetary constraints," he said. Provost Gayle Davis said she will conduct a search for a permanent associate vice president during the winter semester.
