Uruguayan button accordion master, Walter Rold¿n, accompanied by authentic and experienced musicians and dancers, brings a unique experience to the Grand Valley community on Sept. 12. Los Gauchos de Rold¿n consists of: Walter Rold¿n on button accordion, Jos¿ Mar¿a Sanchez on first guitar and vocals, Gerardo Pedrozo on second guitar and vocals, accompanied by the young dancers: Carlos Alem¿n and Silvia Bas. All are from Uruguay.

Together they perform authentic music and dance from the rural areas of Uruguay. The origins are rhythms and melodies brought in the 19th century by European immigrants and later influenced by Afro-Uruguayans, giving Los Gaunchos de Rold¿n a distinct tone and color. In their performance, they explain the roots and history of the music as they demonstrate the various rhythms, dances and styles found in Uruguay as well as neighboring countries, Brazil and Argentine.

The performance is Monday, Sept. 12 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Cook-DeWitt Center. The event is part of the 2005 GVSU Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. Free parking is available in Lot K for community guests.
