Kickoff meetings for spring Relay planned

The student organization Cancer Awareness Resistance and Education (CARE) will host several January meetings to plan for the group's fifth annual Relay for Life, scheduled for April 7 at the Clock Tower Plaza.

For the first time, Alumni Relations and the University Club are seeking more faculty and staff participation during the 12-hour relay. Last year, more than 60 teams participated in the event and raised more than $75,000. Kim Schmidt, associate director of Alumni Relations, said few of those teams consisted of faculty or staff members.

We're pushing it more this year as a way for faculty members to get to know their students outside the classroom, she said.

Three kickoff meetings are planned for the following dates:

  • January 10, 9 p.m., Kirkhof Center, Pere Marquette room;
  • January 12, 6 p.m., DeVos Center, University Club room
  • January 18, 9 p.m., Kirkhof Center, Pere Marquette room.
