GVSU designated Best Workplace for Commuters

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Grand Valley State University has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Transportation for improving air quality and reducing traffic congestion.

Best Workplaces for Commuters, a voluntary partnership program, recognizes employers that provide environmentally friendly commuter benefits to employees. The designation shows Grand Valley is committed to reducing pollution, commuter costs and traffic congestion.

"We're only the second university in the state to receive this designation," said Erin Babson, operations manager for Pew Campus and Regional Centers. "This helps make the community and university aware of how much our transit system benefits the environment by lowering emissions."

Grand Valley's transit system was evaluated in several areas, including usage, cost, availability of services and population of commuters.
