Grand Valley State University hosts the 63rd Annual Congress of the
Guild of Carillonneurs in North America June 13-18. The GCNA was
established in 1936 as a professional organization dedicated to the
promotion of the carillon art. Their annual Congress is held at a
different location each year.
This year, about 140 carillonneurs,
both professionals and students wanting to become members of the
guild, will convene at Grand Valley for a series of scholarly
presentations and recitals. Free public events and recitals are held
at the Beckering Family Carillon on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus,

Concert schedule:
June 13, 7:30 p.m., welcoming recital by Julianne Vanden Wyngaard,
Grand Valley State University Carillonneur.
June 15 examination recitals are scheduled at 9:30 and 10:15 a.m.
The names of these performers remain secret as they are evaluated by a
committee for advancement to full membership in the guild. Todd Fair,
University of Denver Carillonneur recital at 7:30 p.m.
June 16 examination recitals continue at 9:30 and 10:15 a.m. At
2:30 p.m., Dr. Gregory Crowell from GVSU will give a presentation on
Historic Keyboard Instruments in the Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall
at the Performing Arts Center on the Allendale Campus. Stay on the
Allendale Campus for the 4 p.m. recital by Michigan State University
Carillonneur Ray McLellan at the Cook Carillon.
June 17 closing recital at 12:15 p.m. is by Tin-shi Tam, Iowa State
University Carillonneur at the Beckering Family Carillon.
