Terrorism lecture

Terrorism expert and GVSU Social Sciences Dean Jonathan White offers a lecture on Terrorism and the Changing Structure of Modern War in Loosemore Auditorium of the DeVos Center on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. today.

White, dean of the Social Sciences Division at GVSU, is widely recognized as an expert on domestic and international terrorism. His 1998 book, Terrorism, has become the best-selling textbook on terrorism in the U.S. and was recently updated in a new edition. He is also author of Holy War (1985) and earlier books and professional writings on terrorism and military/police operations.

White's analysis of Tuesday's attacks on the U.S. has been sought by dozens of local, national and international news media. He typically does about 30-50 news interviews a year in the U.S. and Western Europe and is retained to advise federal law enforcement on counter-terrorist operations. He also consults with private corporations faced with domestic or foreign terrorist threats.

He earned his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Michigan State University and a Master of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary. He has been a professor at GVSU since 1983.

The lecture is open to the public.
