Grand Valley State University's Grand Rapids campus was the site of a hearing of the Michigan Senate Appropriations Committee's Higher Education Subcommittee. The panel is weighing the state's annual funding of Michigan's 15 public universities.
President Arend D. Lubbers testified on behalf of the university. He urged the senators to join their House colleagues inendorsing a funding level that would narrow the gap between GVSU and the otheruniversities. Grand Valley, despite its record growth, rising academic quality, and strong private support, continues to receive the least state funding of allMichigan public universities.
