Michelle Randall-Collazo, of Jenison, was named the Student Nurse of the Year Runner-Up by Detroit Newspapers and Nurse Profile.
Randall-Collazo graduated in April with a bachelor's degree in nursing from GVSU's Kirkhof School of Nursing. While she was a student, Randall-Collazo was president of GVSU's Student Nurse Association. Under her leadership, the group grew and participated in both national and state activities, including sports physical screenings for elementary school students, blood pressure screening clinics, and flu shot clinics. She now works in home health care.
She has served as a mentor to many of the undergraudates as well as pre-college students and has been an outstanding leader, said a newspaper article about the honors. Detroit Newspapers is the operations arm of the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News.
