A new engineering scholarship at GVSU was made official at a private reception on Oct. 16.
The Price-Heneveld Engineering Scholarship was created in memory of patent attorneys Peter P. Price and Lloyd A. Heneveld, who both died in late November 2000. The two were cofounders of the Grand Rapids-based intellectual property law firm of Price, Heneveld, Cooper, DeWitt & Litton.
Price was a former Boeing aircraft engineer and a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. Heneveld was a graduate of the George Washington University Law School with an engineering degree from the University of Michigan.
The endowed scholarship will be presented annually to a first-year engineering student and is renewable for a second year.
We chose an engineering scholarship because of the technical nature of patent law, said firm member Randy Litton. We hope that one or more of the recipients, having become familiar with our profession through the scholarship and contact with our firm, will choose it as his or her life's work. Grand Valley was an easy choice, because we want to promote West Michigan.
