Native American Veterans Day celebration

Grand Valley and the Grand River Band of Ottawa Indians will celebrate Veteran's Day weekend in what has become a traditional manner -- with the Anishnaabek Veteran's Dance and Feast.

The colorful event, held from noon-9 p.m. on Saturday at the GVSU Fieldhouse in Allendale, has become an annual occasion for honoring veterans and reaffirming the Anishnaabek, or Native American, history and culture. It is open to the public free of charge.

Included in the daylong activities are inter-tribal songs and dances, flag ceremonies, and a potluck Veteran's Feast at 4 p.m. Grand Entries take place at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Guests planning to participate in the feast are encouraged to bring a dish to pass.
