For the Laker football team, the road to the National Championship game was filled with hard work, drama, injury and triumph. And even though the team was stopped by the North Dakota Fighting Sioux in a dramatic game Saturday, there's much for the Grand Valley community to celebrate.
Grand Valley ends the season with a 13-1 record and a pile of new milestones -- including a school record 19-game winning streak and a quarterback, Curt Anes, who was a finalist for the prestigeous Harlon Hill Trophy.
On Sunday at noon, a Welcome Back Celebration will be held for the returning Laker football team to celebrate the success of the national championship run. Everyone is invited to show appreciation for the 2001 GLIAC champions and hear stories from Coach Kelly and the rest of the Laker team. There will be chances for pictures, autographs, and prizes.
