U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra wrestles with a sea lampry Monday outside GVSU's new Lake Michigan Center in Muskegon at an event to highlight a new bill he has introduced seeking to address the problem of damaging new organisms that come in via ships travelling in and out of the Great Lakes
Hoekstra's bill would require those ships to replace or purify their ballast water before entering into Great Lakes waters or certify that any discharge or exchange within the Great Lakes will not introduce any nonindigenous organisms.
