Grand Valley State quarterback Curt Anes is a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy -- the top honor in Division II football. The award will be announced Friday, December 7 at a banquet in Florence, Ala.
Anes leads Division II in both passing efficiency and total offense this season, completing 189 of 271 passes for 3,086 yards and 48 touchdowns, while being intercepted just three times. In the process he led Grand Valley State to a perfect 10-0 regular-season record and into the Division II playoffs.
Anes also led the Lakers to set a Division II record for points scored in a season (584) and a No. 1 ranking in team total offense at 600.8 yards per game.
The Lakers play in Saturday's National Championship game against North Dakota, but Anes is sidelined with a knee injury he suffered in the postseason.Some of Anes' other 2001 accomplishments:

- Three-Time National Player of the Week by Don Hansen's Weekly National Football Gazette (10/8, 10/22, 10/29)
- GLIAC single-game record for Touchdowns Passes (8)
- GLIAC single-season record with 43 touchdown passes in conference play
- Set a GVSU single-season record with 48 TD passes
- Set a single-game passing record of 434 yards agains Michigan Tech.
- He accomplished all of this playing in just 30 of a possible 40 quarters this season.
