Carillon concert Sunday

Peter Langberg, city carillonneur of Logumkloster, Denmark will perform on the Cook Carillon on GVSU's Allendale campus Sunday, July 1 as part of the International Concert Series.

The series features a total of 10 concerts by noted carillonneurs, all held at 8 p.m. on Sundays through August 19.

New this year, the university will introduce to the public the Beckering Family Carillon, located on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus, with its own series of concerts.

The concert series is in its seventh year on the Cook Carillon, which was installed in a 110' tower on the Allendale Campus in 1994. Weekly audiences average about 175 people and often they're a family affair, complete with blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. Children are attracted to the wide lawns and winding paths of the Allendale campus.

Concerts typically run 45-60 minutes. Audience members are urged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating, and to move about the campus. Frisbees and bikes are welcome.

The schedule for the rest of the summer includes:
July 8 - Margo Halsted, university carillonist of the University of Michigan.
July 15 - Julianne Vanden Wyngaard, university carillonneur of GVSU.
July 22 - Ray McLellan, university carillonneur of Michigan State University.
July 29 - Carlo Van Ulft, carillonist and director of the 65-bell Centralia Carillon in Centralia, Ill.
