In addition, the husband-and-wife artistic team will present a lecture at 6 p.m. on October 10 at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, 41 Sheldon Blvd. SE in Grand Rapids. The focus of their talk will be works on exhibit at GVSU.
Both the opening reception and lecture are open to the public free of charge. Art Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursdays,10 a.m.-7 p.m.
The Florenskys have been exhibited widely in Russia and Europe; however, their show at GVSU represents their first trip to the United States. Their work crosses boundaries and covers many media ¿ including sculpture, painting, architecture, conceptual work, and poetry ¿ to express the couple's experience of their native land. A suite of their prints that is part of Grand Valley's permanent collection will be part of the exhibit.
