Three distinguished alumni will be recognized during this weekend's commencement ceremonies at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
Honorees include Virgil Gulker, executive director of KIDS HOPE, USA; Nicholas Kokx, professor of pediatric medicine at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine and a member of the board of directors for both Priority Health and West Michigan Health Planners; and Hubert Massey, Detroit-area artist whose newest work was recently unveiled at the Detroit Athletic Club. Massey's large fresco, Exporting and Importing of Knowledge, can be seen in the DeVos Center.
Also at the ceremony will be former first lady Betty Ford, who will be presented with an honorary degree.
The Commencement Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on April 28. About 1,180 students are expected to receive their bachelor's degrees and 300 will be awarded master's degrees.
