A national crisis examined

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian James McPherson delivers a lecture on the Civil War years Thursday as part of the Lincoln Lecture Series, which is sponsored by the GVSU Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies and the Gerald R. Ford Foundation.

The series focuses on Lincoln's personal and public life as well as his leadership of a nation in crisis -- a timely topic for Americans again facing war a century and a half later. It is held in conjunction with a new, landmark exhibit on Lincoln at the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids. The five Lincoln Lectures, featured at 8 p.m. on Thursdays October 18-November 15, are held the Gerald R. Ford Museum, 303 Pearl NW in downtown Grand Rapids. Admission is free. Call the Hauenstein Center at (616) 895-2770 for reservations.
