Behavioral Health Operations Specialist

Abbey is the Family Health Center’s Behavioral Health Operations Specialist and works in partnership with health center leadership and various team members to support primary care and behavioral health integration. In her role, Abbey assists with billing and authorizations, coordinates referrals, and ensures smooth operations at the front desk between primary care and behavioral health.

Abbey began working at the GVSU Family Health Center in 2020 as a student billing assistant and received her Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management in 2021 from GVSU. After graduation, Abbey earned her Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential and was promoted to a full-time position through the grant at the Family Health Center. Since starting at the FHC in 2020, she has gotten to be a part of the grant coming full circle, with behavioral health being fully integrated to primary care. Abbey also has become a life-long learner and is currently pursuing a Master of Health Administration at GVSU.

In her free time, Abbey enjoys being outside, spending time with family and friends, and doing all things water sports at her family’s cottage on Higgins Lake.
