Digital Studies Alumni Share Career Advice

Digital Studies and Writing alumni Chelsea Best (2019) and Dawson Heath (2021) were the guests of a virtual fireside chat organized by the Organization for Professional Writers (OPW) on Friday, October 28. They talked about the job search, their current positions, and how they are using their digital studies and writing skills in their professional lives. As communications professionals who work with writing and design software on a daily basis, Chelsea and Dawson noted that while the Digital Studies minor gave them experience in working with technology, it also impacted how they see the role of technology and think about questions related to ethics, safety, and privacy.  During the discussion, they encouraged current students to take advantage of classes and extra-curricular activities to develop collaboration skills and the ability to give and receive feedback, which they described as essential skills to have in the workplace. Get involved, learn how to learn, and be curious. These were among the key suggestions that Chelsea and Dawson offered to current students. For more details, check out this article written by Digital Studies minor student Audrey Kelly.
