Exploring Careers in Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Camp is a residential camp that will take place June 13-17.  It is designed to help rising seniors from Battle Creek Central High School think about careers in education and gain opportunities to be a student leader. Scholars in the five day program will design a high-impact, community-based project utilizing project-based learning, develop leadership skills, explore Grand Valley State University, and learn more about the college admissions process in preparation for their senior year.  Scholars will work with GVSU undergraduate student counselors and faculty members.

Camp Scholars will earn a $500 stipend after successful completion of the camp.

Camp will begin at Battle Creek Central High School on Monday, June 13 at 10:00 am.  At 1:00, scholars will take a charter bus to GVSU's Allendale campus and spend four days and three nights on campus.

  • In addition to the camp instructional sessions about careers in teaching, scholars will enjoy the following activities:
  • A fun night at the GVSU Recreation Center on Monday, June 13
  • A fun night on GVSU's Grand Rapids Pew Campus on Tuesday, June 14
  • A daytime field trip to Grand Haven, taking a cruise on GVSU's D.J. Angus research vessel and enjoying time on the beach, on Wednesday, June 15
  • A charter bus will return scholars to BCCHS on Thursday, June 16 at 5:30 pm
  • On Friday, June 17, parents/guardians will be invited to attend a Luncheon and Scholar Showcase at Battle Creek Central High School, 11:00 am-1:00 pm.
