Photos of Elmina Castle in Elmina, Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast.
This photo shows Professor Tucker in the capital city of Ghana, Accra, standing beside the bust of the preeminent African American scholar, W.E.B. Dubois, who lived the final years of his life in this compound in Accra lending his wisdom to the African leaders of the first country in sub-saharan Africa to gain its independence from a European colonial power. DuBois is buried in the compound and the Institute has become a center for international scholarship and research on DuBois' life and prolific work.
