Writing Major Scholarship

Writing Major Scholarship

The Department of Writing will be awarding a $1000 scholarship to one writing student each academic year. The department will be inviting student to apply for this scholarship sometime in early October. Watch here for details.

Qualifications: Candidates and/or recipients, as applicable, for this scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be entering their Senior year (have completed at least 85 credits).
  2. Enrolled with full-time status as a degree-seeking student.
  3. Have declared a major in Writing (either Creative Writing emphasis or Professional Writing emphasis).
  4. Have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0 of better (4.0 system) and a 3.5 GPA in the courses that are required for Writing majors. Recipient shall be making satisfactory academic progress according to the norms established by the University.
  5. Submitted portfolio of writing samples (maximum 30 pages).
  6. Financial need as demonstrated by Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which must be on file in GVSU's Financial Aid Office.
  7. Candidates must be accepted by Grand Valley State University for enrollment or be attending the University to be eligible to receive this scholarship.
