Bringing Consultants Into Your Classroom
The writing center can send consultants into your classroom upon your request for two purposes:
- A consultant can give your students a 10-15 minute presentation about the Center's services. This presentation, involving PowerPoint slides and handouts for your students, is designed to give your students an overview of how the Center can assist them with writing in any of their classes, from help with brainstorming and organizing ideas to documenting sources according to various style guides (such as MLA, APA, Chicago Style, or CBE) to helping students polish their work.
- A group of consultants can come into your class to facilitate an in-class peer review workshop where your students offer each other feedback to drafts they've written. Typically, you let the Center know about your assignment ahead of time, along with an idea of what you'd like the workshop to achieve; the consultants will split the class into small groups and facilitate discussions about the students' drafts, guiding students to suggest ways of making each other's papers stronger.
