How hard are the classes?

3) How hard are the classes?

Mike Brossman, Class of 2006
Most of the classes are tolerable if you don't get behind in your reading. Again, there is a lot of info in such a short amount of time.

Nichole Maxa, Class of 2006
Hard! You will work harder than you ever have before! Expect to study more than you ever have. It is completely different than undergrad.

Joy Powell, Class of 2005
Individually, the classes aren't that hard, but cumulatively, with great demands from each class, they can be pretty intense. Each class just demands so much time and effort that it becomes a challenge to juggle them with everyday real-life demands, too. Personally, I enjoy the challenge and variety, because I work better under pressure. But I know everyone operates differently, and for some, it's just too much.

Heather Sawdy, Class of 2005
They are designed to prepare you for your chosen career, they are tough with a lot of information crammed into a small amount of time - but they are also fair. Once you get into your program faculty are very invested in helping you get through the program, they are very available to students for assistance and answering any questions that may arise. Graduate classes can be very stressful - you just have to read the syllabus and do your best to keep up.

Deanna Bondie, Class of 2004
Hard! No, not really. They're harder in the sense that you have to do a lot more work to prepare and to keep up with the classes. The concepts are new so that makes it a little more challenging too.

Michelle Kreusel, Class of 2004
Classes are hard. I know that I heard that in my undergrad and blew it off, thinking, "but I do good in classes, usually without studying hard, why would this be any different?" I was wrong to blow it off. It is tough and I don't want to discourage anyone going into the program. I think we have an EXCELLENT PT program at GVSU, and we pay for it to be tough. Know also that you will survive. My suggestion would be to write a paragraph to yourself about how you want to go into this field and then save it for during your first year to read. It helps to keep that goal fresh in your mind. And hard may mean a dip in the GPA, I know it has happened too many of my classmates and to me and it was a shock to us all. When we are all used to getting A's, it's hard to accept B-'s. But know that in the program, it is learning and knowledge that is being counted not your GPA.

Susan Stevens, Class of 2003
Very hard!! But, there is overlap between a lot of the classes, and it's not unmanageable& just plan on spending a lot of time studying! Study groups are very helpful, especially if you form them early, instead of waiting until the weekend before the test!

Lindsay Williams, Class of 2003
The classes vary in difficulty. Some things about therapy are simply harder for me to comprehend. I have enjoyed almost all of them though.

Michelle Vander Heide, Class of 2002
I'll admit the classes are difficult. There is a lot of reading and group work, which you know takes a long time. Don't be discouraged by the first year class load, it gets more manageable. But I worked 15-20 hours each week during all of my schooling so it is possible. Some people may need to focus their time and stay away from the work force for a while.
