Omicron Alpha Chapter
Founded: November 9, 1989
Requirements: 3.5 Cumulative GPA and Junior/ Senior standing
Purpose: Honorary society recognizing scholastic achievement
Gamma Sigma Alpha exists to recognize and advance academic excellence as a core value of fraternities and sororities. We do this through our recognition of Greek communities with GPAs over the campus average, scholarships for members pursuing graduate work, presenting academic programming at regional conferences, and our research initiative.
Each member of the organization must be enrolled in at least one (1) credit hour per semester at Grand Valley State University and be in good standing with the University. The membership of Gamma Sigma Alpha shall consist of junior or seniors who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 of higher who are currently enrolled at Grand Valley State University. There shall be no more than three (3) honorary members inducted per year
Qualifications: Membership shall be divided into three categories: General, Alumni and Honorary. General Members shall be undergraduate students and:
1. Shall be at junior or senior status prior to application
2. Shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and maintain that grade point average
3. Shall be in good standing with the University
4. Shall be affiliated with one of the registered student fraternity or sorority organizations at Grand Valley State University
5. Shall have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence and leadership in the fraternity and sorority system at Grand Valley State University
Alumni Members shall be defined as members who have left Grand Valley State University by completing their undergraduate degree or will do so within one (1) month of induction, or who were inducted into a chapter of Gamma Sigma Alpha at another institution. They can not hold elected positions.
Honorary Members shall have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership to Gamma Sigma Alpha at Grand Valley State University, but do not qualify as either general or alumni members. Honorary Members can not hold elected positions.
