Teacher Certification Minor (21 hours)

Geography education is important to all elementary and secondary education students. This minor provides education students with a solid foundation in the basics of human and physical geography, a strong exposure to regional geographies and regional geography concepts and techniques and an awareness of the use of geographic techniques.

Students seeking certification to teach geography at the secondary level are required to complete the following courses:

  1. Two core courses: GPY 100 and GPY 220.
  2. Four regional studies courses: GPY 235, 345 and 353 are required, and one course from the following, GPY350, 351, 352, 354, 355, or 356.
  3. One methods course from the following: GPY 200, 307, 370, 309; NRM 250 or 350.
