Barb Roos


Associate Professor

Professor Roos founded the current Film & Video Program, originally offered through the William James College within The Grand Valley State Colleges. She joined academia from an award-winning career in public broadcasting, including both television and radio.  She has been active in documentary and public service production without interruption up to the present time.

Professor Roos was the recipient of the 2001 Teaching Excellence in Arts & Humanities Award.  For many years, she served as Associate Director of the School of Communications.

During the recent past, her teaching and media production projects have focused on the Middle East.  For example, Barb taught two summers in the History Department of the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.  She also led a group of GVSU students on a month-long study visit to Cairo and South Sinai, Egypt.  She is active in teaching and other activities related to GVSU’s Middle East Studies Minor.
