Information: Attending graduate school at Western Michigan studying the field of Interpersonal communication. When not attending classes of his own he teaches and assists with various introductory-level undergraduate classes as part of his graduate assistantship. He also works as the Assistant Editor on The Journal of Intergroup Relations and serves as the secretary of his department's graduate student advisory association. Words of Wisdom: Do yourself a favor and give graduate school some serious consideration. Whether you are interested in media studies, film/video production, interpersonal communication, organizational communication, etc., the experiences gained while working on a graduate degree will enrich your personal, academic, and professional experiences for years to come.
Information: Working on several projects with small companies and students in the area. She has also joined ASIFA-SF. Words of Wisdom: Focus on showing just how creative and cinematic you can be. Especially with an emphasis in animation. 1,600 students are graduating with degrees in computer animation from one school down the street this year. They are cookie cutter degrees. Show off your problem solving skills and creativity.
Information: She is working full time at Lake View Community Hospital's Education Department. Julie is also working with a newly formed production company called Pirate Filmmaking. The company has multiple projects in the works for PBS out of Detroit, as well as putting on a film festival this coming summer(2003). Words of Wisdom: Do internships...volunteer to work for free...anything you can do to network with people in the field and get some experience. Knowing the right people can really make a difference when you get into the real world.
Information: After getting married in June of 2002, Travis headed to Iowa City, Iowa for a year of AmeriCorps service coordinating and implementing prevention-based youth programing for at-risk kids in the area, from toddlers to teenagers. He's watching the mailbox for film school admission decisions to arrive, and is exploring production based employment in case the mailbox brings bad news. Words of Wisdom: Be ambitious. Be determined. Don't settle into a certain style too early, for eye-openers are everywhere. On the flipside, it's okay to be satisfied...as long as the work truly lives up to your expectations.
Information: Assistant to Visual Effects at Universal Images, which specializes in animation, special effects, and editing. Has been freelancin in Video Production. Words of Wisdom: "Patience is a virtue! The industry is in a state where there are tons of people looking for very few jobs. Work on your reel and find a way to present yourself as being different than carbon copies of students coming out of short term learning centeres suck as "motion picture school" or "specs howard." Going to a 4 year college is WAY better than 6 months. Once you're working on a film set with a regular set folks, its like your second family. There is a lot of love in Detroit's film community and everyone helps each other out. Don't move to LA! 1/10th of the people I know that went found jobs, not counting porno.
Information: A set dressing buyer, working on episodic and feature projects in Los Angeles. Words of Wisdom: Know your heart and your work will know it as well.
Information: Media activist, Wendy Jo, is currently making narrative and documentary's that play regularly in festival circuits. She has also been working as a producer, shooter, and teacher. She develops curriculm for teaching filmmaking to young women called "Chicks Make Flicks." She is actively pursuing feature screen writing, digital photgraphy, and the consumption of random and seemingly meaningless minutiae. Words of Wisdom: There are a thousand ways to tell a story. But you'll make much BETTER films if you're not afraid to tell the truth about what you feel and fear in your own life. Start there.
Information: Jason has been a Vista Volunteer assigned to Grand Rapids Community Media Center since graduation in May of 2001. He has fundraised his way to Ehiopia as of January 11, 2002, at the invitation of an ehopian social worker, to assist in establishing a local media campaign against AIDS. His work there will include training local people to continue the work after his return to the United States.
Information: Working on individual projects. Words of Wisdom: After graduation, the only thing in this world of real value is a regular sleeping schedule...conversly, being constantly tired may be a sign of good work.
Information: Erin is currently attending school at The Academy of Art College in San Francisco pursuing a second bachlors degree in 2D animation.
Information: Jody is currently an Associate Developer/Producer at Zondervan and oversees the development of multiple applications that get published on CD-ROM with Zondervan's book, curriculaum and software productions. These products range from cross-platform Power Point CD-ROMS to proprietary software. I also make our eBook publishing line.
Information: A freelance videgographer/cinematographer, director, and editor. While finishing up my MFA Degree in Film and Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Words of Wisdom: As a director, you are always alone.
Information: Jeff is currently the Coordinator of In-Game Entertainment for the Colorado Rockies. He produces and edits the videos for the Colorado Rockies video board as well as directs for video board during all 81 home games. In addition, he designs animations for all the scoreboards at Coors Field. |
