The English Department currently offers three opportunities for post-baccalaureate education. In conjunction with the College of Education, students may obtain an M.Ed. degree with TESOL emphasis in General Education. A program offering graduate-level ESL endorsement, leading to state ESL endorsement, is also available. The English Department also offers a Master of Arts degree in English.
ESL Endorsement Program
M.Ed TESOL Program
These degree programs focus on linguistic theory, educational research, and practical applications of classroom methodology to educate and train students who desire to either obtain state ESL certification or a M.Ed. in TESOL. By integrating both theory and practice, these programs appeal to both local teachers and students who wish to become ESL professionals and international students who wish to persue a graduate degree in order to teach English in their home country.

The M.A. in English
The Master of Arts in English is a program intended to provide students with advanced studies in the various literatures written originally in English (with occasional supplementary literature in translation). Thus, the program concentrates on the range of literature produced in the English language, regardless of nationality or dialect. British, American, and Anglophone literatures are studied with emphases upon literary history, history of genre, close analysis of individual authors and themes, cultural context, and critical theory.
